We are excited to announce that Criollo Restaurant & Lounge will make its debut in the New Orleans restaurant scene on Friday, May 25, 2012 with creative breakfast dishes. Our lunch and dinner debut will follow in June. Much like New Orleans, Criollo Restaurant & Lounge reflects a true blending of many cultures and influences. Executive Chef Randolph Buck and Chef de Cuisine Joseph Maynard have created an incredible menu featuring the Gulf South region’s fresh, home grown ingredients.

Eat, drink and be merry at the New Orleans Wine and Food Experience! This year, our own Criollo Restaurant & Lounge chefs Joseph Maynard and Randolph Buck will be cooking with world renowned chefs Tasha DeSerio, Bill Taibe and David Gaus right outside the Hotel Monteleone during the Royal Street Stroll on Thursday, May 24, 2012. Make sure to stop by and sample one of Criollo’s signature dishes!

Criollo Cocktail

In honor of our new Restaurant & Lounge, Criollo, we have created a delicious new cocktail! We’ll be mixing it up at the Carousel Bar & Lounge, so make sure to try it on your next spin! It’s a perfect cocktail for the summer, so we’re spilling our secrets and sharing our recipe with you! It’s the perfect way to add a little bit of New Orleans to your own home!

1 ¼ oz. Old New Orleans Cajun Spice Rum
¼ oz. Agave Nectar
3 wedges Fresh Lemon
3–4 Fresh Mint Leaves
4 oz. Club Soda

This recipe has been adapted from the Bar Florida Cocktail book from the Florida Hotel in Havana, Cuba.

To pay tribute to New Orleans and to keep with the theme of using local products in our restaurant, Criollo Restaurant & Lounge, we are featuring Old New Orleans Cajun Spice Rum and, when available, locally grown citrus from Southern Louisiana.

Place Lemon Wedges, Agave Nectar and Mint Leaves in a 14 oz. Collins style glass. Muddle to release the essence of the mint and to release the juice from the lemon. Be careful not to muddle too hard as the mint and lemon will become bitter.

Fill the glass with ice, top with Old New Orleans Cajun Spice Rum and Club Soda, and garnish with a Lemon Wedge and a Mint Sprig.

Goodbyes and Well Wishes to Andrea Thornton

The Hotel Monteleone has created memories for our guests for more than 125 years. One of the most important parts of our history is the people who work here. Andrea Thornton, director of sales and marketing at the Hotel Monteleone, will be retiring at the end of May. She oversees the Reservation, Catering and Conference Service Departments of the Hotel as well as promotion through advertising, public relations and sales. Andrea has devoted over 45 years in the hospitality industry, 30 of which was in the hotel industry. She has been an important part of the Monteleone’s legacy. Her efforts over the last 12 years have preserved the sterling reputation of the Grand Dame of the French Quarter. We will miss you dearly, Andrea, and we wish you all the best!

Manager of the Quarter: Gloria Mikell

We are excited to congratulate our Manager of the Quarter, Gloria Mikell, for her outstanding work!

Gloria has outperformed herself in the past three months, accomplishing projects ahead of schedule, stepping up her leadership role in our housekeeping department, and taking charge during our weekly walk through.

Gloria’s greatest attributes are her sense of urgency and follow up. Thank you, Gloria, for your continued assistance!
